Annotated Bibliography

The annotated bibliography is due on Thursday, February 14. Make sure to do the following:

• Use five unique sources.
• Use proper MLA format for the bibliography. For information on how to set up a MLA bibliography, check out the research page at www.pomperaug.com.
• For each entry, include a two or three sentence description fo the web site. Describe who created the source and the type of information that is found in the source.

Sensations Quiz

The quiz on Friday, February 8 will cover the following:

• Touch
• Taste
• Smell
• Accessory structures of the eye
• Anatomy of the eyeball (fibrous, vascular, and nervous tunics) (F-block only)

Spinal Cord Quiz

On Thursday, January 31, there will be a quiz on the spinal cord. This will cover the anatomy of the spinal cord, the cross sectional drawing of the spinal cord, transmitting messages through the spinal cord, and reflexes.

Research Paper

We are half-way through the school year and it is time to start thinking about the end of this course. Since this is an introductory course on the human body, we have touched upon many ideas and subjects but we are not experts in any one subject. Your job is to become an expert in one area that you currently are not an expert in. You will be researching an area of human biology and reporting back to your classmates what you found out.
The area that you research is entirely up to you, as long as it pertains to the anatomy or physiology of the human body. You will be researching a different topic than any of your classmates; therefore you will be the class expert on this topic. To demonstrate your newfound expertise, you will write a 2,800-word research paper.
In order to make this task easier for you, the process of writing and researching your topic will be split up over time. The following are the dates when certain portions of your research are due.

February 8 Deadline for signing up for a topic
February 14 Annotated bibliography
March 10 Outline of the paper
March 27 Any draft you want edited without being graded
April 10 A working draft of your paper
May 15 Final draft of paper

This research project will account for half of your fourth marking period grade, on top of any other tests, quizzes, labs, and homework that will be assigned during this time.
Remember, the topic that you choose is one that you will be working on for a couple of months. Choose a topic that interests you and has enough information to make a good presentation. Good luck and enjoy.
